Ok, so I have been delinquent in getting at this as much as I wanted to. Life have been busy, but in the intervening days, I have pondered the appropriate use and purpose of this. I have decide to expand the purpose beyond Herm and Eutychus, interesting as they are to also include my own thoughts about many things that deserve attention:
One: I have a lot of history, being now almost 55 with many musings and ponderings that I value and think perhaps there are others that may value them also. I have had 30+ years with the church that I attend and I daresay some interesting historical perspectives on its path and current trajectory. I will be adding these as I want as a chronicle of what has transpired from my own perspective. I present no illusion that others will agree with my experience, given that over the years, it has been clearly demonstrated that my perspective is often at odds with the broad cross section of the church and society in general.
Two: I am a teacher and see no reason that I should not post here teachings that I have gathered over the years - ways of thinking, worldviews and such, that I believe are important to write out and allow others to digest also, for whatever they are worth.
Three: I have a responsibility to free thinking and expression - The oppression of the rational open debate, the quelling of challenge to the status quo, the silencing of healthy discussion are all aspects of culture that throttle the advancement of ideas. No doubt there are those who would rather I not open the discussion on vital topics because it challenges their control and their way of thinking, but this is based in fear rather than substance. I have proven over and over my desire for unity but the question is always raised about where unity is breached. Is it in the irresponsible challenge to the status quo or the smug self-protective arrogance of the status quo itself. THAT is the question I intend to explore on occasion here.
